Adulting

Hello friends,

Wait. Wait. That isn't how I usually begin my blog posts. I was thinking about trying out something new but that just sounds creepy. Let me start over.

Good Morning Fine People of Gotham,

Augh....wrong television show. Okay, I'll just get right into it. Lately things have been going pretty well. I survived my first visit with a crackpot therapist and have been training on new tests at work.

Learn about visual field tests, which help to assess the potential presence of blind spots
This is the machine but imagine a much smaller room with no lighting
I also started training on another set of tests that are supposed to detect patterns of poor reception from your eye to your optic nerve and brain. That would be helpful in trending patterns of damage to the optic nerve, which is what we look at when we talk about glaucoma.

VEP vision test for Optometry and Ophthalmology. The Diopsys® Neuro Optic Vision Assessment Systems use a technology called Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) to evaluate a patient’s response to an external stimulus along the entire visual pathway from the lens of the eye to the visual cortex.
This is the machine that the patient is looking at for the test
Patient set up to take an ERG test on the Diopsys NOVA Vision Testing System
This is what the patient looks like once you get them all hooked up....but just imagine  dark room and a much more confused/annoyed looking patient

So, that has been a challenge for me lately (mostly to stay awake, not so much to learn the tests or work with the patients) I tend to joke around a lot while doing the visual field tests so I think people appreciate that.

The other big development has been delving into the world of buying a house for the first time. We're both still on the edge of the cliff and haven't jumped yet but hopefully after a call back from our lender, we'll be diving head first.

I think we're both ready for our own space and to make that next step, FOR THE MOST PART. If you always wait until you're 100% ready, you'll never do anything.

For example, I leave for work in 20 minutes but I am NOT READY to change into my scrubs or brush my teeth. I guess I'll have to just get up and see what happens.

Sincerely,

SM
